When the brothers George and William Penrose founded the Waterford Crystal House in 1783, they made a bold promise – to make Waterford crystal in “as fine a quality as any in Europe in the most elegant style.”
It was no idle boast. They had in hand the old secrets of mingling minerals and glass to create Waterford crystal of beautiful and mysterious qualities. It sang sweetly at the tap of a finger. It felt soft and warm to the touch yet possessed strength and durability known only to Waterford crystal. And it radiated a distinctive, silvery white brilliance, which Waterford Crystal’s artists enhanced with deeply – cut ornamentation that gave the finished pieces a vivacious, traditional Waterford crystal sparkle.
This great tradition lay dormant for a hundred years. But when Irish independence rekindled a passion for Irish arts in the 1940s and 1950s, a group of businessmen resolved to bring back to life the industry that had made the city of Waterford famous. They recruited a small band of hand – picked artists, and under the guidance of these masters, young apprentices learned the intricacies of the art of crysta l. In a few short years Waterford Crystal reclaimed its pride of place. Once more, it is the customary gift for royalty and heads of state. Patience, skill, and artistry had wrought a triumph at Waterford crystal.

It was in 1898 , that the amazing Lampe Berger story started.
In response to a major preoccupation at that time – a sepsis in hospitals – Maurice Berger, a pharmaceutical dispenser, invented a system of diffusion by catalysis, for which he filed a patent. This revolutionary technology, which purifies the air in enclosed rooms, was soon to be applied for private use , giving birth to the Lampe Berger company.
The little lamp which destroys bad smells saw its apogee during the1930s: fragrance provided the dimension of pleasure; the Lampe Berger became a collector’s item, each lamp being associated with a designer and major manufacturer such as Cristal de Baccarat, Cristalleries de Saint Louis, Emile Gallé, René Lalique, and then the top porcelain producers of the 1950s… Coco Chanel, Jean Cocteau, Colette or Picasso each had their own Lampe Berger.
A company which, since then, has always continued to develop and reinvent itself in order to be more than ever present for people living in the 21st century.

David Bradley Chocolatier was started by Bob and Marcy Hicks, and Bob’s mother Alma, over thirty years ago. Alma, Bob, and Marcy had always loved sharing delicious food and conversation with family and friends, so when in 1977 Alma, who was a widow, started looking for a fun business to start, it seemed natural that it would be something food oriented. They all decided that gourmet chocolates and gifts would be an exciting and fun business to run.
